CBN

Next to the diamond, CBN is the hardest material known. It is made of boron and nitrogen in a high-pressure and high-temperature process similar to the diamond synthesis. Compared to the synthetic diamond, it has a higher thermal stability and in contrary to the diamond, it cannot release carbon to ferrous metals under the influence of temperature. Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride is widely used for the machining of tool steel, case-hardened steel and high-speed steel (45–65 HRC), welding alloys (> 35 HRC), cast iron as well as hard and alloyed cast types.

 

CBN types

 

GB120 CBN type with low CBN content 50% Fine grain, good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for hard-fine turning without cutting interruptions Vc=200m/min (grain size 1µ).
GB121 CBN type with low CBN content 60% Fine grain, good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for hard turning with slight cutting interruptions (grain size 1µ).
GB221 CBN type with low CBN content 65% Fine grain, very good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for hard turning with strong cutting interruptions (grain size 1µ).
GB400 CBN type with high CBN content 90% Fine grain, very good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for machine finishing of cast iron, superalloys and sintered steel (grain size 2µ).
GB520 Solid CBN type with very high CBN content 93% Coarse grain, good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for rough and fine machining of white iron, Nihard and cast iron (grain size 10µ).
GB521 Solid CBN type with very high CBN content 95% Fine grain, good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for machine finishing of cast iron, superalloys and sintered steel (grain size 3µ).
GB621 Solid CBN type with low CBN content 60% Fine grain, good impact resistance and very good wear resistance, for hard turning with slight cutting interruptions (grain size 2µ).
